ChatGPT Prompts for Stunning Halloween Men Portraits
Get our stories first in Google Search
Halloween portraits are one of those things that either look cheap or look incredible, with very little in between. The difference usually comes down to lighting, styling, and how seriously the shot takes itself.
I’ve been testing a lot of costume portrait prompts in ChatGPT lately, and the ones that work best read like a photographer’s brief. You describe the makeup, the fabric, the smoke, the light, and the camera position, and the model fills in the rest.
To use these, open ChatGPT, start a new chat, and paste the prompt in. If you want the face to match a specific person, upload a reference photo first and then send the prompt. Every prompt below is ready to copy as it is.
The Grinning Vampire at the Bonfire
This one leans into chaos. Bright orange lenses, firelight, and a huge open-mouth laugh give it energy that most vampire portraits never get.
Create a close-up portrait of a man laughing with his head tilted slightly back, sharp vampire fangs visible, wearing round orange-tinted sunglasses with thin gold frames. He has messy dark hair, a thin scar on his forehead, a black leather buckle choker around his neck, and heavy silver chain necklaces layered over a deep red patterned shirt with the top buttons open. Shoot at eye level, very close, with a shallow depth of field. The background is a dusk sky with a giant glowing jack-o-lantern out of focus behind him and orange embers floating through the air. The photo style is cinematic and gritty with a cool blue and burnt orange color palette. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

Skull Makeup in a Sharp Black Suit
Black and white does something special with skull face paint. Removing the color pushes all the attention onto the contrast and the texture of the paint.
Create a dramatic black and white portrait of a man wearing detailed skull face paint with blackened eye sockets, a painted nose cavity, and stitched teeth across his lips. He is dressed in a fitted black suit jacket over a white dress shirt with a loose black tie, and black leather gloves. He stands with one shoulder angled toward the camera and one hand raised near his chest, staring directly into the lens with a cold expression. Shoot at eye level with harsh directional side lighting that carves out shadows on his face. The background is a rough weathered stone wall in a dark alcove. The photo style is high contrast monochrome with deep blacks and strong grain. Use aspect ratio 9:16.

The Classic Aristocratic Vampire
If you want the old-school Dracula look, keep the makeup pale and the wardrobe rich. The color of the shirt is doing most of the work here.
Create a portrait of a man with slicked-back black hair and very pale skin, wearing dark smoky eye makeup around his eyes that fades into his cheekbones. He is dressed in a high-collared black wool cape over a deep burgundy ruffled shirt with lace detailing and a silver ornamental brooch at the throat. His shoulders are squared to the camera and his chin is level, with an intense unblinking stare. Shoot at eye level, close up, with soft diffused overcast light. The background is a blurred pale grey winter street with bare trees. The photo style is moody editorial with a muted grey and wine red palette. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

The Lumberjack With the Axe
Not every Halloween look needs makeup. This one is pure styling, and it works because of the wood grain and the warm shadows.
Create a moody portrait of a bearded man with a thick full beard and neatly combed-back hair, standing with his arms crossed and holding an old wooden-handled axe resting against his shoulder. He is wearing a red and navy checked flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled up, showing heavily tattooed forearms. His expression is serious and unsmiling. Shoot at eye level, framed from the waist up, with warm low-key lighting coming from one side. The background is a dark stained wooden plank wall inside a cabin. The photo style is rich and rustic with deep browns, reds, and heavy vignetting. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

Red Room, Red Lenses
A single flat background color changes everything. This is the most graphic shot in the set, and it prints beautifully.
Create a stylish portrait of a man in a wide-brimmed black fedora wrapped with a dark red patterned band, wearing small round sunglasses with deep red lenses. He has shoulder-length wavy dark hair, a thin moustache and a small goatee, and a red gemstone earring. He is dressed in a black overcoat over a charcoal waistcoat with a red silk scarf at the neck, a large red teardrop pendant on his chest, and black leather gloves with a red ring, one gloved hand resting against his chin. Shoot at eye level, close up, with soft even studio lighting. The background is a flat crimson red backdrop. The photo style is polished fashion editorial with a black and red palette. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

Holding the Clown Mask
The mask off the face is scarier than the mask on. Half the frame is smoke, which gives it a theatrical feel without any obvious costume.
Create an atmospheric portrait of a young man with curly dark hair, a moustache and short beard, sitting backwards on a wooden chair with his arms resting on the chair back. He is wearing a plain black button-up shirt with the collar open, and he is holding a cracked vintage porcelain clown mask up beside his own face with one hand. His expression is calm and blank while the mask grins. Shoot at eye level, framed from the chest up, with dramatic side lighting. The background is thick swirling smoke lit in purple on one side and red on the other, with tiny embers drifting through it. The photo style is dark cinematic studio portraiture. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

The Mad Inventor
Steampunk works well for Halloween because the props do the storytelling. Goggles and a curled moustache and you’re already there.
Create a gritty black and white portrait of an older man with wild curly grey hair and a long waxed handlebar moustache, wearing large brass and glass aviator goggles pushed up onto his forehead. He is dressed in a rumpled tweed overcoat over a knitted scarf and a striped shirt, and he is stroking his pointed beard with one hand while frowning into the camera. Shoot at eye level, tight on the face, with hard low-key lighting from above. The background is near black with faint texture. The photo style is desaturated vintage portraiture with strong contrast and visible grain. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

Gothic Harlequin on the Runway
This is the fashion version of a clown. Tailoring plus dripping makeup makes it feel like a couture show rather than a costume shop.
Create a full editorial portrait of a young man walking toward the camera with white base face makeup, dark red paint dripping from under his eyes, vertical black lines through the brows, blackened lips, and a painted grin extended at the corners. He is wearing a tailored black tuxedo jacket with oxblood satin lapels over a black shirt with a deep red ruffled cravat and a silver pin. His posture is upright and confident with a blank expression. Shoot at eye level, framed from the thighs up, with soft overhead runway lighting. The background is a dark blurred crowd of seated spectators. The photo style is high fashion runway photography with a black, wine red, and bone white palette. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

The Painted Victorian Portrait
Instead of asking for a photo, this one asks for an oil painting. The result feels like something hanging in a haunted manor.
Create an oil painting style portrait of a pale young man grinning widely with sharp fangs and yellowed teeth, a thin trickle of blood at the corner of one eye, and dark hollow shadows around his eyes. He is wearing a black Victorian tailcoat over a black waistcoat with a white ruffled shirt and a white silk bow tie. He is turned slightly to one side with his shoulders angled and his face toward the viewer. Shoot at eye level, framed from the chest up, with soft directional light falling from the upper left. The background is a plain dark olive grey studio backdrop. The photo style is classical portrait painting with visible brushwork and a muted palette. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

The Tired Clown With Balloons
My favorite of the set. There’s no jump scare here, just something quietly sad, and that lands harder than fake blood ever does.
Create a full body portrait of a bearded man in worn clown makeup, with a small red painted nose, smudged black eye paint, and a cigarette hanging from his lips. He is wearing a dirty stained white t-shirt with red suspenders over it, showing colorful tattoos down both arms. He stands slouched and still, holding a bunch of red and orange balloons on tangled strings in one raised hand while staring blankly at the camera. Shoot at eye level, framed head to hips, with soft muted studio lighting. The background is a faded brown painted canvas backdrop. The photo style is quiet documentary portraiture with dusty warm tones. Use aspect ratio 4:5.

If a prompt comes out too clean or too costume-like, add a line asking for realistic skin texture and imperfect makeup application. That single change usually makes the biggest difference.
Feel free to swap the wardrobe colors, the background, or the light direction in any of these. The structure is what matters, and once you’ve got that, you can build your own Halloween looks from scratch.
